Arc

Acacia Melanoxylon (Blackwood) & Mild Steel
240cm x 58cm x 34cm
An old growth blackwood tree, way up in the Upper Wilson’s creek valley near the end of the road. It had been dead for years, decades likely. Threatening a gathering place, where people sat and children played, the most sublime old mama tree was felled, and its wood honoured.
Where it grew was a special place, and what became of this one slice of it reflects it. The land was a portal, or sorts, the last cleared area before thousands and thousands of jungle like fully wild acres of national park. The edge of two systems, is their richest point.
As you stand in front of Arc, that space between you both, is the richest point. The mind wanders through the opening, the steel roots anchor the work, the pale sap wood and the dark, rick, luminous heart wood appear to never quite touch.
The edge of two systems. The liminal space.
